The Families Included Prize is looking for great ideas, projects and solutions from Essex that involve local families with young children in opportunities that enrich their lives.
Ideas can relate to any aspect of life such as:
- social experiences or anything else.
We’re offering £10,000 in development funding for one great idea that could help tackle social isolation for parents and carers of children under 5.

What is social isolation?
Looking after a young child can be one of the most rewarding things someone does but it can one of the toughest too. For many parents or families with children under 5, daily stresses and pressures can leave them feeling lonely, or socially isolated.
Social isolation is when someone doesn't have the social or family contact, community involvement or access to services they want and need. This leaves them feeling lonely, less able to cope with problems and less able to get the help they need.
Being socially isolated, or being afraid of becoming socially isolated, is a concern for families in Essex of all backgrounds. It can affect all areas of their life, as well as their confidence, making it more difficult for them to seek help. We know these experiences are not always best addressed by traditional council services, and we're actively looking to tackle this issue.
How can your ideas help?
We want anyone in Essex with an idea that could help families with young children feel more included in community life to enter the challenge. If your idea is chosen as one of 10 finalists, we’ll support you to develop your idea and you'll be in with a chance to win £10,000 in development funding.
